For the sake of political expediency, Aldric Talvalin's liege lord King Rynert engineers his troublesome vassal's betrayal to the forces of the Drusalan Empire. I really enjoyed this story. The characters were funny and serious and you could feel the hurt and pain that the main character was going threw as he was alone. This was such a different read then from the Dragon riders of Pern. it gives you another view of the imagination. Bertin's first book in this set is extremely readable, has great descriptions, characters, and really neat people to be used as for the evil that can be anywhere.
